Taipei, Taiwan – August 2024 – PharmaEssentia is proud to announce its long-term partnership with the Digital Humanitarian Association and WaCare Telehealth, highlighting their substantial contributions to enhancing digital health services for the elderly in underserved communities. This year marks PharmaEssentia's inaugural participation in the 2024 SDG Asia, where the Digital Humanitarian Association was honored with the SDGs 17 Gold Award for its innovative "Smart Fall Prevention Services for Seniors." Additionally, WaCare received the SDGs 3 Silver Award for its project "Digitally Illuminating the Path for Dementia Care."
The digital health model implemented by WaCare Telehealth addresses critical health promotion needs for the elderly while alleviating the operational pressures on local healthcare staff. Through expert-led training courses, local workers gain essential knowledge in effective elder care, fostering a positive feedback loop that promotes sustainable community health.
PharmaEssentia is invited to speak in the 2024 SDG Asia “Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo” Sustainability Salon, where it engaged in a dialogue with the Digital Humanitarian Association on the theme “ Partnership with NPOs for Mutual Benefit: Transforming Philanthropy into Profitable Business.” During this session, Mrs. Shu-Fen Li , Senior Director of the Sustainability Development Center at PharmaEssentia, shared practical insights from the biotech sector. Director Li detailed the company’s motivations for sponsoring the Digital Humanitarian social welfare projects and its strategic shift toward impactful social initiatives, focusing on developing a five-year ESG blueprint strategy that aligns with corporate growth objectives.
PharmaEssentia has conducted a thorough two-year evaluation, identifying thousands of internal metrics that have successfully guided the company’s inclusion in the 2024 S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook. This accomplishment positions PharmaEssentia as a target by international funds, marking a shift from reactive to proactive investment strategies. The case sharing at the sustainability salon aims to equip attendees with insights on integrating corporate core values into impactful social welfare initiatives, leveraging resources for broader social impact.
This forum provided a unique opportunity to focus on the social dimension of sustainability, particularly the pressing issue of "People and Health." With Taiwan on the brink of becoming an ultra-aging society, teams from the Digital Humanitarian Association and WaCare are dedicated to harnessing advanced digital technologies and telehealth models to serve the elderly in rural areas, thereby promoting health equity and reducing disparities between rural and urban health outcomes.
